Vilma Nissinen

Originally from Kainuu, Vilma decided as a young girl that she wanted to become a skier. Years of determined work have taken her to the cross-country World Cup, the World Championships and finally the Olympic Games. One of the toughest international performances of her career came at the 2025 Trondheim World Championships, where Vilma finished 15th in the first ever women's 50-kilometre World Championship race and was the second-best Finn over the distance.

In 2026 Vilma reached one of her long-term goals when she made her Olympic debut at the Milano–Cortina Winter Olympics. The road to the Olympics was not straightforward, however. A Covid infection before the 2022 Beijing Games shattered her first Olympic dream, and in the difficult period that followed Vilma even had to consider whether to continue her career. She decided to carry on – and four years later the Olympic dream came true.

In Finland Vilma represents Vuokatti Ski Team, and her career includes several national championship medals from both individual races and relays. Everyday life filled with international competitions and training seasons makes travelling, recovery, nutrition and holistic wellbeing a natural part of her life.

Alongside sport, Vilma has also built strong expertise off the track. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a focus on marketing and management, and social media has long been a natural part of her athlete identity. Vilma shares with her followers not only the everyday life of an elite athlete but also life, wellbeing and moments beyond the race tracks.

At the core of Vilma's story is the ability to keep going even when plans do not work out on the first attempt. In elite sport the successes are visible, but behind them are years of training, uncertainty, difficult decisions and the will to try again.
